How it works

Both dates are counted when they fall on a weekday. Public holidays are not excluded by default; type specific dates in YYYY-MM-DD format if necessary.

This is a basic weekday calculator, not a determination of contractual working days or legal deadlines.

Frequently asked questions

Does it automatically exclude UK bank holidays?

No. Enter any bank holidays you want excluded, because calendars differ across UK nations and years.

Does Saturday count?

No. This calculator counts Monday to Friday only.

Weekends and public holidays

The calculation counts Monday to Friday between the selected dates, including the starting and ending dates when they are weekdays. Enter holidays explicitly in the YYYY-MM-DD format to exclude them from the count.

National holidays, regional closures, bank holidays and employer-specific work schedules are not automatically loaded. For plain calendar days instead, use days between dates.

Include or exclude boundary dates

You can decide whether to count the earliest date and latest date in the range, independently, using the two checkboxes. By default both dates are considered; Saturdays, Sundays and any valid holidays you enter are excluded from the result. The calendar range is sorted chronologically before calculation, even if you enter the later date first. The calculator does not automatically know local public holidays or employment contract rules.

Business days calculator: worked examples

From Monday to Friday in the same week, the total is five business days when both dates are included and no holidays fall within that range. Excluding the starting Monday gives four. Across two complete Monday–Friday weeks, there are usually ten weekdays before considering public holidays. Use the checkboxes to control which boundary dates count.

How do I calculate two business days from today?

Select today's date as the start and adjust the end date until the displayed count matches your intended convention. A phrase such as “in two business days” commonly excludes the starting day, whereas “business days including today” counts it when it is a weekday. Confirm the convention required by your contract, bank or courier.

Does this tool know US federal holidays?

No. It does not automatically import a United States federal holiday schedule or state-specific closures. Manually enter the relevant dates, separated by commas, and check the authoritative holiday calendar for your use case.

Related date and work calculations

If you also need the total number of calendar days, compare the result with the days between dates calculator; it does not automatically exclude weekends. If your goal is to total time spent on shifts rather than count weekdays, use the work hours calculator instead.

Business days versus adding business days

The first calculator counts weekdays between two dates. Questions such as “91 business days from today” instead ask for a future date. Use the add/subtract tool to select a starting date and a number of business days without trial and error. For a future or past date from an entered number of working days, use the new add/subtract calculator above; the starting date is excluded from that result.

Holiday exclusions must be entered manually. Results are suitable for planning, but they should not replace the schedule specified by a courier, bank, employer or legal agreement.

How to add or subtract business days from a date

Starting on Monday 26 October 2026, adding five business days gives Monday 2 November 2026 if no holiday is entered. The start day itself is not counted. Subtracting one business day returns the previous eligible weekday. The result is based on weekdays (Monday–Friday), not official US bank or public holidays unless entered manually.

What happens when the starting day is a weekend?

For positive offsets the count starts with the next eligible weekday; for negative offsets it moves backward. An offset of zero simply returns the starting date, including when that date falls on a weekend.

Quick answers for 10, 30 or 90 business days

Use the new 5, 10, 30 and 90 weekday shortcuts in the date finder or click Use today to select your device's local date. The calculator shows both an ISO date (YYYY-MM-DD) and a readable date in English. Start day is not counted when adding or subtracting days, and public holidays are excluded only if you explicitly enter them.
