How Base64 text encoding works
Base64 represents binary data with printable ASCII characters. It is useful for data exchange, not for hiding information. To encode text correctly, this tool first converts your input to UTF-8 bytes, then creates the Base64 representation. When decoding, it checks Base64 characters and padding and decodes the bytes as valid UTF-8. That means accented letters and emojis work just like English text.
Base64 example
The word Hello encodes to SGVsbG8=; decoding SGVsbG8= returns Hello. More complex text, including café, requires UTF-8 conversion rather than treating each character as a single byte.
Encode or decode safely
Choose the operation, paste your text, and press Convert. You can copy the text or download the result. Spaces and line breaks around an encoded Base64 string are accepted. Invalid padding, invalid alphabet characters or invalid UTF-8 are rejected instead of silently returning corrupted text. Input is limited to 1 MiB, and no external API is called.
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 a form of encryption?
No. Anyone can decode it. Do not use Base64 alone to secure passwords, API tokens or confidential documents.
Does Toolenox upload my data?
No. This converter runs client-side in the browser, without transmitting input or output to Toolenox servers. Avoid entering sensitive data on shared or untrusted devices.
Can I decode an image or arbitrary binary file?
This page is a text UTF-8 converter only. It does not download binary image files or interpret data URLs.
