Convert CSV rows into JSON objects
CSV (comma-separated values) commonly stores spreadsheet-like information as rows. JSON stores structured information used by websites, programs and APIs. This converter treats the first CSV row as column headers and transforms following rows into an array of objects, keeping cell values as strings to avoid unintentionally changing identifiers such as ZIP codes with leading zeros.
Example CSV input
name,city Ada,Rome Grace,New York
The result is a JSON array with keys name and city for each record. Quotes, embedded commas and line breaks inside properly quoted CSV cells are supported.
Convert JSON arrays back to CSV
Switch the operation to JSON to CSV and paste an array of flat objects. The converter combines object keys into columns. It rejects nested arrays and objects rather than silently flattening them. Each CSV value resembling a spreadsheet formula is prefixed with an apostrophe to reduce formula-injection risk when the export is opened in spreadsheet software.
Delimiters, privacy and limits
Choose comma, semicolon or tab separators to match your file. Up to 1 MiB of input, 1,000 records and 100 columns are supported. Inputs remain entirely on your device; the page does not send the data to a server. Download the converted text or copy it to your clipboard.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a large spreadsheet?
This browser utility is designed for small and medium text datasets, not massive files. It accepts pasted text rather than uploaded workbooks.
Are values automatically recognized as numbers?
No. CSV cells are kept as text in JSON to prevent accidental loss of leading zeros or identifier precision.
Need to format JSON instead?
Use the separate JSON Formatter & Validator to pretty-print, minify or validate existing JSON without converting it into CSV.
