How to create a free static QR code
Choose Website URL and enter a full https:// or http:// link, or choose Plain text to encode a message. Set error correction and image size, click Generate QR code, then preview your QR and export it as a PNG or SVG. Generation runs completely in the browser without registering or uploading content.
Do static QR codes expire?
The QR pattern itself has no Toolenox-managed expiry date: the payload is encoded inside its modules. However, the linked website can disappear, change, redirect or become unsafe. A static QR cannot be edited after printing; to encode a different destination, create a new QR image. It does not include scan analytics, dynamic redirects or subscription services.
PNG vs SVG: which QR format should I download?
PNG is a raster image suitable for slides, documents or social posts. Choose a 256, 512 or 1024 pixel size target; actual dimensions may be slightly smaller to preserve crisp square modules. SVG is vector-based, convenient for sharp scalable design and print workflows. Both use a four-module white quiet zone to assist scanning.
QR error correction: L, M, Q and H
Typical redundancy is about 7% for L, 15% for M, 25% for Q and 30% for H. Higher correction can improve resilience to small marks or damage, but may require a denser QR or reduce available content capacity. No setting guarantees every camera or scanner can read every print.
Privacy and input limits
QR data stays in this browser: we do not upload it to a third-party QR website, create tracked links or require an account. The input limit is 512 UTF-8 bytes, and the generator also checks its chosen encoding capacity. Never put passwords, personal records or secrets in a QR: anyone who scans the image can read the encoded content.
Frequently asked questions
Can I generate a QR code without a signup?
Yes. You can generate and download the image locally without an account.
Can I change a static QR destination later?
No. The original link is embedded in the modules, so you must generate a different QR to use a new destination.
How is it different from an EAN-13 barcode?
QR is two-dimensional and can store text and URLs. An EAN-13 barcode is a linear numerical format with a checksum. If you need images in JPEG format, try the WebP to JPG converter.
